A topping out ceremony recently heralded a major milestone in the construction of The George Centre, a ground-breaking medical facility in Gregory Hills.

Officials on hand at the ceremony included Tony Sukkar AM – Group Managing Director, BuildCorp, Dr Andrew Chang – Chairman of the Board, Acurio, Scott Fowler – Group CEO, Acurio, Dr Robert Lin – Chief Strategy Officer, Acurio, and Andrew Boustred – Group Development Director, HealthCo.

Topping Out is a builders’ rite traditionally held when the last beam (or its equivalent) is placed atop a structure during its construction. Today it simply means finishing the structure.

Due to open in mid-2023, The George Centre will complement Sydney’s Southwest exemplary public health system in supporting local healthcare needs. Many people unfortunately currently leave the region to get healthcare services. The maternity, paediatric and surgical hospital is also set to attract and retain local medical talent in NSW’s fastest growing region.

The George Centre is the brainchild of Western Sydney born and raised Dr Andrew Chang and has been so named in honour of his late father.

“We are a NSW owned company led by healthcare professionals. With our partners BuildCorp and HealthCo, this has been carefully planned over the past 8 years.

It’s a significant investment in families and clinicians in a young, rapidly growing and full of potential region. We genuinely want to make a difference as we see the area develop.”

“Our mission is simple – we want to transform local people’s lives”.

The George Centre will be the only private paediatric facility in NSW.

The 5-storey building will have state-of-the-art operating theatres, specialist maternity delivery suites, radiology, pathology, endoscopy, other allied health services and support services such as pharmacy and a multilevel car park.

Chief Strategy Officer Dr Robert Lin of Acurio, the company behind The George Centre, says they already operate hospitals successfully in NSW. He added:

‘What’s different about us is that we’re not just another hospital group. Acurio’s focus is on the entire health ecosystem. Our services are multidimensional – Clinics, Hospitals and a Research facility.”

Dr Lin said he encourages any locals interested in working at The George Centre or providing services to email info@thegeorgecentre.com.au or call 1300 022290
